Recruiting employees like you has become a highly competitive and challenging process. You are more savvy and sophisticated than ever before. As always, you are seeking a career path that will enable you to use your education, skills and talents creatively, but more recently, you are placing more importance on maintaining a balanced life style.
It is critical that Soren McAdam Christenson LLP accurately communicate its distinctive characteristics and demonstrate why you should consider joining us.
We will challenge your technical skills and creative capabilities very soon in your professional experience; we will ask you to learn quickly and accept significant responsibilities. In other words, we will challenge you to grow from the minute you join the firm.
The challenge to perform at a high level has never impaired our perspective on a balanced life style. Ask our people how many total hours they invest in a year, or what is greatest number of hours they have ever worked in a week is.
Because you are savvy and sophisticated, you know the public accounting profession is truly a “people” profession, and there is no place that is truer than in the local CPA firm environment. From the very beginning, our staff is encouraged to work closely with clients and form meaningful relationships which will continue to enhance our goal of providing “exceptional client service” to all SMC clients.
Our staff development program calls for a diversified approach to training, industry involvement, accounting, audit, tax and consulting engagements, as well as exposure to the majority of senior staff and partners. We do not hire people and immediately place them on audit-only or tax-only tracks. We want our staff to be more well-rounded professionals who can develop into business advisors for our clients, not just their auditors or their tax preparers.
It is our membership in PKF International (discussed below) that contributes significantly to our comprehensive continuing professional education program. The course list includes a menu of options such as:
- Supervisory Skills
- Leadership Training
- Business Advisory Skills
- Engagement Management
- Niche Specific (Industry) Programs
- National Conferences
- International Conferences
These courses are in addition to course availability through the AICPA, the California Society of CPAs, and other professional and industry organizations which SMC belongs to and supports. We also provide audit and accounting and tax updates throughout each year.
We find that investing in far more continuing education than is required has paid significant dividends in enriching the professional experience and service capabilities of our staff.
As you can gather from perusing the website, we perform all of the traditional services a CPA firm typically provides, and we perform the nontraditional services we believe our clients need to enhance their profitability and support their management focus. Specialization in these service areas or a certain industry is not something we encourage immediately, and in some cases specialization never occurs. However, over time, some staff and partners gravitate to a particular service or industry. When that happens, and it is thought to be best for the person and the firm, the firm supports the specialization through its training and its scheduling of engagements.
Any discussion of Soren McAdam Christenson’s distinguishing characteristics would not be complete without an orientation to PKF International with whom we have been associated for almost twenty years. This is a membership association comprised of more than 80 independent accounting and consulting firms within North America and over 50 additional firms worldwide. It is this affiliation that enables us to offer our staff the extraordinary training, networking, shared resources, technical assistance and niche tools that are demanded in today’s competitive environment. We are, in many ways, able to offer the services and resources of a national CPA firm without giving up the close relationships we have with our staff and clients.
