The Right Size
We are a prominent mid-sized acccounting firm, with ten full partners and dozens of staff, so you are assured that your needs will be met within our organization. We have people who provide exceptional client service on accounting, financial statement and tax engagements. In addition, we have service specialists in numerous areas including: business valuation, forensic accounting and litigation support, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, employee benefit audits and compliance, mergers and acquisitions, recruiting, systems integration consulting, and various forms of business planning. We have people who provide expert knowledge, experience and service in the fields of construction, manufacturing and distribution, healthcare, agriculture, service, retail, and not-for-profits.

Commitment to Quality
SMC is licensed to practice by the California State Board of Accountancy. All of our audit partners are members of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CSCPA).

Highest Standards
SMC has undergone seven peer reviews under standards established by the AICPA. These reviews evaluate whether a firm has an appropriate quality control system for their accounting and auditing practices. We have always received an unqualified report, indicating the highest level of professionalism. The peer review team for our most recent review, performed in December 2001, did not even issue a "letter of comment", which is typically written to discuss minor deficiencies identified during the review. We are proud of our accomplishments in this area, and believe that these results reflect our sincere commitment to perform quality work for our clients.

Professional Education
To further ensure that we provide the highest quality service to our clients, we place a high level of importance on continuing professional education for our staff members and partners. We currently average over 50 hours of continuing professional education, per staff member, in a typical year.

National and International Representation
In our global economy, even small companies may need authoritative advice for national or international business. SMC is a member of PKF North America Network (PKF NAN), an association of independent accounting and consulting firms. Our membership in this association provides us with access to the additional specialized knowledge and expertise of 90 member accounting firms located in North America, and the firms of PKF International with more than 160 firms in over 100 countries. PKF allows SMC to serve its clients with the breadth of resources of a national firm, but with the attentiveness of a local firm.
