Soren McAdam Christenson Accounts for More than Numbers
How our economic growth effects business planning
Soren McAdam Christenson LLP participates in the economic development of the Inland Empire in ways that are rarely noticed—except by clients. Since SMC has had a deep understanding of the construction industry, as well as of inventory-based businesses (such as manufacturing, warehousing, and wholesale); the firm accurately comprehends the "inside-effects" of how our economy is being impacted by regional growth.
Growth in the Inland Empire is affecting facility and land costs, labor changes, materials availability, energy costs, and transportation issues. All of these issues can make a big difference in operations, forecasting, and naturally, taxation.
To serve their clients better, Soren McAdam Christenson LLP has organized the firm's accounting specialists (who serve construction and contracting businesses) into a construction team; team members regularly communicate to each other regarding current trends and developments in both the industry and the Inland Empire. In the construction industry, cost and project management is critical. SMC has developed specialized systems for managing cost and labor; these systems allow interfacing with organizations' accounting and management needs. As a result, the firm has a deep understanding of traditional accounting needs, as well as the rapidly changing IE landscape, and its impact upon management and profit.
Additionally, SMC has a specialized team for manufacturing and inventory-based businesses, which are growing very rapidly in the Inland Empire. This team focuses on the special problems of accounting in the areas of inventory costs and movement. All clients benefit from the wide-experience base, especially in the areas of industry-specific expertise and regional trends.
Before becoming a CPA, Gary Christenson grew up in the construction industry; he is now one of the key partners involved in the construction team. "I knew mud on my boots long before I understood debits and credits. Today, I love being a part of both the construction industry, and the accounting systems and finance part of construction," says Christenson, one of the three partners directing the construction team. "We have people completely devoted to construction IT, bonding, and the finance areas of the industry, not to mention accounting services and taxation."
It is only natural that Soren McAdam Christenson has an interest in the local region and its economic development. The firm has a deep commitment to the area, as its two founding firms were located in the Inland Empire. All partners live and work in the IE and are actively involved in their various communities.
